More people live in urban Clark County than in any of Southern Nevada's cities, including the city of Las Vegas, and SEIU NV members provide services to them all. We are the first to greet tourist at McCarran International Airport, work to keep the quality of air safe, work with foster children and disburse benefits to some our most vulnerable residents. We also provide regional services for more than 1.9 million residents and 44 million tourists a year.

Reminder on Banked Holiday Leave

As a part of the changes to the collective bargaining agreement ratified last month, all employees who work a schedule other than Monday through Friday, and a holiday falls on their scheduled day off, will receive banked holiday leave equivalent to the normal number of hours the employee works. Usually, this banked holiday leave must be used by the last day of the last full pay period in June.

Clark County Human Resources has extended the time in which the banked holiday leave must be used for June 2009 only.  This year, the banked holiday leave must be used by June 30th or forfeited.

It's Crunch Time in Carson City

With only two weeks left in the 2009 Legislative Session, it's crunch time.

To date, we've seen a lot of posturing and tirades about public sector employees and retirement benefits and numerous articles in the local papers fed by the Chamber of Commerce. 

We knew when the session kicked off last January that a 'protect and defend' mode would have to be sustained throughout, so that's exactly what we've done.  We've kept a real presence of SEIU members at the Capital sharing their personal stories and setting the record straight about PERS with Legislators.

Now, as the Legislative Session winds down, we need to pay close attention to any shenanigans that may or may not take place in regards to the budget and other vital issues. We will keep our guard up and members need to be ready to react if needed. Stay tuned for more updates.

Clark County & UMC Vote Yes - Ratify Tentative Agreement

On Friday, April 3 members voted yes to ratify the agreement reached with Clark County. By ratifying the approved changes, we halted any immediate action Clark County was going to take regarding layoffs.

We don’t just work for Clark County it’s where we live and raise our families. In these tough economic times, SEIU members are willing to step up to the plate.
