More people live in urban Clark County than in any of Southern Nevada's cities, including the city of Las Vegas, and SEIU NV members provide services to them all. We are the first to greet tourist at McCarran International Airport, work to keep the quality of air safe, work with foster children and disburse benefits to some our most vulnerable residents. We also provide regional services for more than 1.9 million residents and 44 million tourists a year.

Why a Reopener?
In April 2009, in the midst of the national economic crisis, a contract extension was agreed upon with the County and voted on by SEIU members that provided concessions and protected benefits such as longevity for an additional year. The contract extension also provided for an economic reopener which would allow the members the option to bargain for an increase in their COLA and in turn the County would put forth their proposals on economic issues only. Today, a motivated and growing membership and SEIU staff sat in unity at the bargaining table to address the economic reopener.
The following are some of the County’s initial proposals:
-
4% pay cut retroactive to July 1, 2010
-
Forgo merit increases
-
Increase health insurance premiums for the majority of membership
-
Stipulations upon overtime, and adjustments to shift differential pay
-
Six mandatory furlough days during the course of the next year
Our Position:
It’s time that management recognize and reward the sacrifices and contributions that we’ve made. We’ve already given up concessions. We’ve done our part and continue to do our part each and every day by doing more with less. We demand the recognition of our contributions.
SEIU Members Want You to Know: Our voice is unified and being heard in bargaining and we’ll continue to hold-the-line for fair bargaining. Let your voice be heard at
