On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, SEIU Local 1107 members came together in Downtown Las Vegas to honor Dr. King’s legacy not only with remembrance—but with action.

Led by SEIU Local 1107’s African American (AFRAM) Caucus, members, caucuses, and community partners proudly marched in the MLK Day Parade, standing shoulder to shoulder in unity and solidarity. Healthcare workers, home care providers, public service workers, retirees, and allies filled the streets with a shared message: dignity, justice, and equality are not just ideals—they are commitments we live out together.

This year’s march reflected a powerful truth Dr. King taught us decades ago: civil rights and workers’ rights are inseparable. As working families across Nevada and the country navigate uncertainty, rising costs, and decisions that impact their lives, SEIU Local 1107 showed up to affirm that collective action remains one of the strongest tools we have.

“Dr. King’s dream was never meant to be symbolic—it was meant to be lived,” said Stephanie Hughes, President of SEIU Local 1107’s AFRAM Caucus. “Marching together today was about honoring his legacy through unity and action, and reminding our communities that when we stand together, we have power.”

SEIU Local 1107 was also honored to be joined by its endorsed Assembly candidates Alexis Esparza (Assembly District 1) and Miguel (Assembly District 15), who marched alongside members and community leaders, reinforcing the importance of leadership that stands with working people.

Throughout the parade, SEIU Local 1107’s caucuses and partners demonstrated what it looks like to live Dr. King’s dream in real time—across generations, backgrounds, and communities. This was more than a moment. It was a recommitment to the ongoing work of justice, dignity, and opportunity for all.

As the march concluded, one message rang clear: the dream lives on when we show up for each other.
