SEIU Local 1107 members—our strength and unity made the difference.
At the latest meeting between our union leaders and UMC management on November 13, we stood firm in demanding solutions that protect workers and quality patient care.
The result: NO LAYOFFS!
This victory shows what’s possible when members stay united, speak out, and hold management accountable.
We will continue to monitor UMC’s next steps and update our members. Together we will continue to protect all essential frontline workers at UMC.

“I am so proud of all our members who showed up to support us as we told UMC that lay offs are not the answer!”
— Elizabeth Bolhouse, Exec. Board & Chief Steward | UMC
“After several collaborative meetings focused on cost-saving options, we appreciate the hospital administration’s commitment to not pursuing layoffs during the holiday season.
SEIU values this good-faith decision and will continue working together to protect both patient care and our dedicated staff”
— Eric Gasper Bargaining Unit VP | UMC

“Due to the work of our union and our members, everyone can enjoy the holidays without the fear of layoffs. We still have work to do and will continue to hold administration accountable.”
