Southern Nevadans send clear message that union values are top priority in 2026

Las Vegas, NV - In the June 9 Primary Election, four Service Employees International Union, Local 1107 rank-and-file members secured victories in state assembly and Clark County democratic primary races. A historic win for union members and working families, the results underscore a demand for change and mandate that working families to have a seat at the table.

The SEIU Local 1107 Champions Slate includes Alexis Esparza, Assembly District 1; Miguel Davila, Assembly District 15; Tanya Flangan, Clark County Recorder; and Tamicka Washington, Clark County Assessor.

“Our slate of proud SEIU Local 1107 members bring several decades of public service experience; embody our Unions for All vision; are committed to advancing economic, social and racial justice; and uniting across communities to raise standards for everyday Nevadans,” said SEIU Local 1107 Executive Director Sam Shaw.

The months-long grassroots efforts began with one-to-one voter conversations across Southern Nevada and grew into a powerful mobilization program lead by SEIU Local 1107 and a coalition of labor unions and community organizations.

“Nothing replaces the authenticity of kitchen table conversations – that’s where you’ll hear, too often, that we’re in an affordability crisis and working Nevadans are struggling. We can’t trust corporations or the wealthy to look out for everyday people. Folks want change and that means electing leaders up and down the ballot that hear us, see us, and come from rank-and-file membership,” said Kevin Carey, SEIU Local 1107 Political Organizing Committee Co-Chair.

Running against candidates with more resources, SEIU Local 1107 members earned the support of labor unions, advocacy groups and community organizations, fueling a comprehensive electoral operation that included 40,000 doors, 150,000 phone calls, 150,000 text messages, and a robust mail and digital program.

“The result of this primary election clearly shows that when labor and community partners unite, people-powered organizing is greater than corporate donors and deep campaign coffers. We thank our sibling unions – the Nevada State AFL-CIO, Southern Nevada Building Trades Unions, Teamsters Nevada, Culinary 226, AFSCME Local 404, LiUNA! 872, Carpenters 1977, National Action Network, and so many more – and our community partners, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada and Make the Road Action. Together, we made clear that #UnionMade candidates must be the priority in the general election in order for working families to be represented in the state legislature and local government,” said Debbie Springer, SEIU Local 1107 Political Organizing Committee Chair.

SEIU Local 1107, with more than 20,000 members from healthcare, public service and home care industries, showed up in full force in the primary, volunteering daily on the doors and on the phones to Get-Out-the-Vote, culminating in a powerful SEIU pre-Election Day weekend canvass.

“The bottom line is that SEIU members made the difference in this primary election. Every conversation with our co-workers, our families and in our neighborhoods delivered unprecedented results for working people. SEIU Local 1107 member leaders and our SEIU caucuses made such an incredible impact, and we look forward to taking this momentum into November to elect #UnionMade leaders up and down the ballot,” said Lorraine Oliver, retired SEIU Local 1107 Political Organizing Committee Member.

“In November 2025, the hiring of our new Political Director Natalia Jordan was monumental. PD Jordan brought her unique experience of Nevadas political landscape, her exceptional work ethic, and the understanding of what it takes to build collective power to win,” said Michelle Maese, SEIU Local 1107 President.
